Here is a list of things that I started thinking about in Sydney but not much before then:
- atmospheric house music sets
- electronic music of all genres in general
- how cities develop and sustain their character
- people just want to live their lives in peace
- communication requires a substantial amount of work and focus
- old machines can help us understand new machines
- trust between two people is very tangible
- and when lost, nothing feels right anymore
- not thinking is a gift
- persistent hard work no matter how menial the work is is rewarding
- linear reading of reference books is overrated
- organized space and owning less things unties you from stress
- complicated relationships are actually not so much fun
- honoring the person we want to be makes us better than we are
- experimental storytelling immerses the audience and forgets the story
- I am not sure I still care enough about others to try to change them
- multitasking really doesn’t work
- dating is still not totally enjoyable but it is no longer unbearable
- I need to feel like I belong to a city, an idea, a person, a community
- talking to people about novels that do not exist feels rebellious and exciting
- for some weird reason I do actually enjoy helping people
- having a stable job means everything to some people
- mixing music comes from a deep understanding of rhythm and energy
- new york is waiting
- nobody’s waiting for me to do what I need to do; it must come from myself only
- doing that which needs to be done should be the highest virtue
- why do people cheat instead of ending one thing and moving on?
- I cannot imagine working in a career for the next fifty years
- doing laundry more often is infinitely easier than doing it all at once
